Two our players will play in Egypt at the African Cup of Nations
Desire Ségbé and Zezinho will play at the final tournament of the African Cup of Nations 2019.
The last step is always the hardest, even in football. Desire Ségbé and Zezinho, however, manage it. Benin respectively. Guinea-Bissau will play this year at the Africa Cup of Nations final tournament 2019. It is a great success for both countries.
Guinea-Bissau managed her Saturday match on home court against Mozambique. To seal the qualifying group, team around Zezinho need one point. The scored goal of the home team (2:2) came in the 95th minute just after the Zezinho pass. At the same time Namibia lost 4:1 to Zambia and Guinea-Bissau advanced from the first place. "I feel very happy to have given this joy to the Guinean people in this difficult time with political crisis and I am proud to lead the group where we managed to find two consecutive times for Africa Cup 2019 in Egypt. I am honored to be part of this fantastic group that made history that will stay forever in the name of our country," commented this success on 26-year-old midfielder FK Senica.
A more demanding opponent was waiting for Benin on Sunday. Togo arrived in Benin with former star striker of Arsenal London or Manchester City Emmanuel Adebayor. Benin eventually managed a tough duel, a winning goal scored in the 83rd minute by Huddersfield striker Steve Mounie to secure his country´s 2:1 win. "It’s amazing to be qualified for African cup in Egypt. The last time Benin was in African cup it was 9 years ago so all the country is so happy now. People inside and outside of the stadium were incredible ! It was an incredible atmosphere," explains the 25-year-old, who made a selfie with his country´s president at a post-match dinner: "After the match the President of Benin invited us for dinner so i took the photo with him and i posted it on Instagram. He wanted to celebrate with us and tell to us how he is happy and proud."
Guinea-Bissau also presented itself at the latest edition of the African Cup of Nations. It happened in 2017, the final tournament took place in Gabon. In competition with Burkina Faso, Gabon and Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau took fourth place in the A-Group. Zezinho played all three matches. Benin´s last participation in the final tournament of AFCON is tied to 2010. The final tournament was played in Angola, Benin competed third in the C-group in competition with Egypt, Nigeria and Mozambique. 16 teams participated in both tournaments. This year, the Confederation of African Football has expanded the number of participants to the 24 teams.
